The role of solitude/silence/meditation

The role of rest and reflection cannot be overemphasized in a leader’s preparation. Before beginning a major mission, leaders withdraw. Far from noise and away from any distractions. Almost all great and successful people speak of a time that is determined by silence, reflection and input.

What happens to the leader during this time of rest and gathering?

A few thoughts and insights:

  • We recognize ourselves in a phase of growth and not in a phase of satisfaction.
  • We fight our battles and overcome the temptations to take shortcuts.
  • We learn discipline and the art of relying on something and/or someone to support us.
  • We strengthen our belief in the mission that is bigger than ourselves and so stop constantly praising and focusing on ourselves…
  • We fixate all of our senses on the mission.
  • We gain perspective.
  • We are being prepared to take up our calling.
